How to Identify the Silver Version

All Barber Dimes are 90% silver. The edge is reeded. The obverse shows a Liberty head facing right — similar to the Barber Quarter but smaller. The mintmark is on the reverse, inside the wreath, below "ONE DIME": "O" for New Orleans (through 1909), "S" for San Francisco, "D" for Denver, no mintmark for Philadelphia.

About the Barber Dime

The Barber Dime was minted from 1892 to 1916, designed by Charles E. Barber. It shares the same obverse design as the Barber Quarter and Half — a Liberty head wearing a Phrygian cap and wreath. The reverse features a wreath surrounding the words "ONE DIME." The design was part of Barber's effort to standardize US coinage.

Each Barber Dime contains 0.0723 troy ounces of pure silver — the same as the Mercury and Roosevelt Dimes that followed. The total weight is 2.5 grams at 90% silver. The melt value is the silver content multiplied by the current spot price, shown in the spec table above.

The 1894-S Barber Dime is one of the most famous and valuable US coin rarities — only 24 were minted, and fewer than 10 are known to survive today.
